Visiting family here from So Cal so used to great mexican food. This place was pretty good. I got the shrimp fajitas, lost of big juicy shrimp cooked just right tons of onions and bell peppers. Came with all the sides, everything was good. From what I can tell the tortillas or chips dont seem hand made, you get two small tortillas with your fajitas which wasnt really enough. The rice was good, my mom said the beans could have used some salt. The salsa seemed like it could have been canned with some fresh stuff thrown in. My mo got the seafood enchiliadas and said that if they left the stuff bigger it would have been good but the insides were chopped so small you couldnt taste anything. She said the sauce was good though. I would go back if I was in the area again, I dont have anything local to compare it to but I thought it was pretty good. The prices seemed fair we paid about $12 and each had seafood. I wasnt too impressed with the service, we were seated promptly but no refills on the drink without having to ask, had to ask for the check even after our table was cleared and the lady I paid messed up charging my card then printed the receipt slapped it on the counter told me to sign and walk away, though that was kind of rude. BUT it was Valentines day and I dont think they were used to being that crowded. Like I said, dont expect anything amazing but the food is good, the prices are a little high but I would go back. Oh if you care the decor is definitely dated 1980's seafoam green mexican indian design, not updated and not nice lol booths and tables, very casual and clean inside.

There are not a lot of places to eat in Chino Valley, and I've not eaten at most of them. Arturo's is not on that list because I have eaten there..... more than once. A small mexican restaurant in a small strip "mall", Arturo's is a west side establishment (that means it's on the west side of the highway). I know this because I have watched the sun set over Arturo's. Here's the scoop: Ambiance - They have Mexican lookin' stuff all over the walls, both booths and tables and it's a little brighter inside than a lot of Mexican restaurants I've been to (and I like Mexican food - I think my parents knew that ahead of time. Why else do you name your caucasian kid "Carlos"?). Service - Most of the time a party of four can get a seat fairly quickly. The waitstaff is polite and attentive. Food - They have it. You want more info than that? It's good. In terms of quality, very similar to something you'd be able to get in some of the family owned chains in Phoenix. Serrano's and Garcia's come to mind. Arturo seems like a really nice guy. I haven't actually ever seen him but who else would open a decent Mexican restaurant in a quiet little hamlet like Chino?

We were with the party that Angela reviewed on 6/28, there were 10 of us. Wanted to try the new building that the restaurant had just moved into. It was awful, prices have been raised and the acoustics horrible (very loud). We were seated in the bar area and had to listen to an obnoxious couple for most of the meal before we asked the manager to shut them up. She should have noticed this without us complaining. The food was bad, had the taquitos (rolled tacos) from the appetizer menu, they seem to have decided to over-fry everything & lessen the amount of guacamole with the order (after raising the price). We used to go here regularly as a group, the manager knows who we are, but no more after this visit. The manager decided to argue the point about the flauta issue (see Angela's review), got a bit nasty and never took the charge off the bill. Just so Arturo will know in the future, here's an article for he & the manager to read....if you are going to keep Flauta's on the menu then get it right! "What is the difference between taquitos and flautas? Taquitos are made with corn tortillas and flautas are made with flour tortillas" (excerpt from JoCooks.com ) Arturo you can get a recipe by going to this website or many others. So..... there will be 10 less customers at Arturo's in the future, a new place in Prescott just opened, Arturo (& manager) has gotten too big for his britches - he needs to realize there are new kids on the block.

Oh man! I'm not sure what some of the bad reviews were about. Went there today for lunch. It was my first time. It was the absolute BOMB!! Carrie served the absolute best Catalan margaritas and the fajitas were the best I've had in a long time! The salsa is super fresh and awesome! My new favorite Mexican restaurant!

Love the food, but they let people bring dogs in and sit them at the table. This was not a service dog. After asking the waitress, she said they normally allow it. At the table!! Ew

If I could give this restaurant negative stars I would. The service was mediocre at best. My albondigas were from a can, the chips were burned, the cheese in my kids enchiladas was not melted, my green tamale was cold inside and had no meat also the masa was way too sweet. The salsa was the only good thing about my whole meal and that also tasted like it's from a jar or can I guess witch ever is cheaper. This is nothing close to authentic Mexican food, Taco Bell is more authentic than this place. I travel a lot and have had Mexican food from many different states and grew up in a large Mexican family and this is by far the worst I ever had. Please avoid this place that's the best advice I can give you.

Stopped in here tonight because I know mexican food is an easy one while eating Gluten free. I asked the hostess if they had a gluten free menu. They do not, however they went and talked to Arturo about what would be Gluten free. The manager came and talked to me while the hostess was checking with Arturo. The Manager didn't know what gluten is. She asked me what it is. I think I had the distinguished honor of being the first customer to be gluten free here. (Sarcasm) The hostess came back and told me that I probably shouldn't have the rice, but that the special of Machaca and beans with corn tortillas would be good. I had driven over 450 miles today and just wanted to sit down for a meal before I went to my hotel room. on that note, I am glad I went here. I was honestly to tired to really school them tonight, so I can only hope they have another gluten free customer that has the energy to help educate them a bit more. My meal was really good, which made me happy. The machaca had a great flavor, and texture, with the crispy edges you normally get with Carnitas. It was a bit on the greasy side, but it had so much flavor I couldn't fault that. (Not sure if it is deep fried or not like most carnitas are). The corn tortillas smelled and tasted like real Masa tortillas. They did evoke memories of when I was a kid and the neighbors qould cook tortillas on top of an old 55 gallon drum, but I digress. The beans were good too. I liked my meal a lot, and if I lived here this would be a regular spot for us! I can't give 5 stars because they need gluten free education. I will be here once a month so maybe I can revise this if they can learn about the food they serve and what is gluten free and what isnt, beside flour tortillas. Overall, a shiny spot in Chino Valley.

Inconsistent food quality. Lousy service by wait staff. I was finally thrown a menu after a considerable wait. Had to ask for my drink several times and never received it, but it was put on my bill then argued with me over it. I will never go back. There are better Mexican dining options in Chino Valley than here.

We ordered ala carte and there was plenty of food. Machaca burrito enchilada style for me and wild burrito enchilada style for my date. The chips & salsa before the meal were tasty, indeed. We didn't have alcohol so the bill was under $20. Personally, we prefer the less expensive and tastier Sonoran Mexican food at Taco Corner. Just saying...

It was cozy inside. Waitress was prompt and friendly. Food was OK but then we just stopped for ala carte items and an ice tea. Thought it a bit overpriced for location, etc. probably because there are not many places to eat in Chino Valley.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
